Nurse extern in surgical intensive care unit (SICU). My duties include providing oral care to vented patients, assisting the nurse with sedation and pain, and help setting up tube feeds.

My duties included promoting activities of daily living (ADLs), applying Sequential Compression Devices (SCDs) to prevent thrombus formation, and performing point of care testing (POCT). I worked directly under the supervision of a registered nurse. I floated across all four hospitals in the Integrated Delivery Network (IDN) which included Holmes Regional, Palm Bay, Viera, and Cape Canaveral while working in the ICU, PCU and Medical/Surgical units. While on the job, I received recognition from a nurse manager for providing exceptional care to patients while on a short-staffed shift.
