Casey Mitchell's Expertise
  • My first research experience was in the Lab of Bone Metabolism and Endocrinology at La Universita di Camerino. It was so exciting to work with bone tissue and conduct experiments to determine the role of proteins in the bone marrow microenvironment. In this lab, I gained skills in cutting and staining bone tissue and culturing mammalian cells. At the San Francisco State University (SFSU) I obtained my Masters in Biology, concentrating in cell and molecular biology. Designing a thesis from scratch was a rewarding, although challenging, process that taught me how to troubleshoot and keep moving after hitting a wall. My research project required me to learn techniques I had not previously used and learn how to use outside sources for information. While at SFSU I continued to develop my passion for education, mentorship, and research by teaching several undergraduate biology laboratory courses. Teaching has taught me how to disseminate information in a clear and interesting way while encouraging and supporting my students. Now at CytomX Therapeutics, I am working to characterize T-cell bispecifics (TCBs) therapies by assessing TCB binding and cytotoxicity. In this role I have gained further experience in techniques such as cell culturing, flow cytometry, and cell engineering techniques. My personal goal is to never stop learning and through a career in research, I can achieve this. I hope to one day lead my very own lab, make impacts in the field of immunotherapies, and develop more effective and accessible therapies. My professional interests are centered around the tumor microenvironment, discovering molecular targets, and developing cancer immunotherapies.
