  My career in respiratory therapy includes twelve years as Manager of Pulmonary Medicine at New Britain General Hospital in Connecticut. After relocating my family to Maine, I spent twelve years as Manager, Cardiopulmonary Service, at Downeast Community Hospital. In each of these positions my accomplishments included balanced budgets, growth of clinical services responsive to patient and medical staff needs, successful JCAHO and state inspections, and participation in extensive cross service committees. At DECH I received an appointment to the Associate Medical Staff. I developed curriculums, directed and instructed in Respiratory Therapy education programs in college affiliated hospital based programs in Connecticut. I then joined University of Kentucky as a Program Coordinator and instructor, at the rank of Assistant Professor. My accomplishments included developing a bi-level, career ladder Technician to AS Therapist Program with Dr. Donald Egan at New Britain General Hospital, and developing a bi-level AS and BS Respiratory Therapy Program co-sponsored by The University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville. Both programs recieved JRCRTE approval. In the latter program, I was successful in securing grant money for creating an extensive campus Respiratory Therapy laboratory and Resource Center. My professional experience has included hospital and university committee participation, team participation and facilitation, working collaboratively with other hospital departments, medical staff, physician offices, and administration; Professional development - both hospital based and university based; patient education, critical care, ventilator and non invasive ventilation management, emergency care, Rapid Response Teams, attending high risk deliveries, PFT's, Bronchoscopy assist, holter/event recorder application and scanning, EKG, Stress Tests, ABG acquisition and analysis, and intubation/LMA training and experience.
