Furqan received his B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering with minors in Mathematics and History from New Mexico Tech in May 2006. From August 2006 - May 2008 he was a recipient of the National Science Foundation's GK-12 Fellowship. As a GK-12 Photonics Fellow he worked with science teachers of the Albuquerque Public Schools to develop learning modules to excite students about STEM subjects. While pursuing his M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering with a concentration in Optoelectronics at the University of New Mexico (UNM), he was part of the Center of Excellence for High Energy Lasers, a joint venture among the Air Force Research Laboratory’s Directed Energy Directorate, UNM, and several other universities. Furqan graduated with his M.Sc. degree in December 2008. Currently he is working at NASA in the Laser & Electro-Optics Branch as a laser engineering building the flight lasers for GEDI.
