Furqan Chiragh’s Expertise During my education and work experiences, I have acquired a unique skillset that makes me a great technical and business asset. I have worked in R&D environments where cutting edge technologies have been developed to support Directed Energy missions as well as NASA Earth Science projects. Through these experiences I have develop a keen sense of taking what is known and unknown in order to formulate a path forward towards success. I have a history of bridging divides within working groups in order to complete projects on time and within budget. Also, I have the ability to explain scientific concepts to technical and non-technical audiences. Explaining technical concepts to non-technical audiences is of great importance because many times the key stakeholders do not have technical expertise. Being able to explain scientific concepts clearly and concisely such that everybody can be on the same page is paramount while working towards mission success. Furqan received his B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering with minors in Mathematics and History from New Mexico Tech in May 2006. From August 2006 - May 2008 he was a recipient of the National Science Foundation's GK-12 Fellowship. As a GK-12 Photonics Fellow he worked with science teachers of the Albuquerque Public Schools to develop learning modules to excite students about STEM subjects. While pursuing his M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering with a concentration in Optoelectronics at the University of New Mexico (UNM), he was part of the Center of Excellence for High Energy Lasers, a joint venture among the Air Force Research Laboratory’s Directed Energy Directorate, UNM, and several other universities. Furqan graduated with his M.Sc. degree in December 2008. Currently he is working at NASA in the Laser & Electro-Optics Branch as a laser engineering building the flight lasers for GEDI. Furqan received his MBA in May 2016 from the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business.
