Hilary Vidair’s Expertise Hilary B. Vidair, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Psychology and former Director of the Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program at LIU Post. She earned her Ph.D. in Combined Clinical and School Psychology from Hofstra University in 2005. She then completed a National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) Research Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Columbia University and the New York State Psychiatric Institute. Dr. Vidair’s research interests focus on managing parental symptoms in the context of child and adolescent treatment, engaging and retaining parents in treatment, and innovative strategies for training clinicians in evidence-based treatments. She is the Director of LIU Post’s Family Check-In (FCI) program, a low-cost, 3-session assessment, feedback, and referral service for parents of 2-8 year-olds. FCI is designed to identify child and family difficulties early and help parents make informed decisions about mental health treatment and related services. She is co-authoring a book, “The Theses and Dissertation Guide for Doctoral Students in Applied Fields of Psychology, Mental Health, and Education” (with Oxford University Press). She served as Guest Editor of the “Anxiety Disorders” issue of the Child and Adolescent Clinics of North America series. She has received several awards, including the National Institute of Health Clinical Research Loan Repayment Award, the NIMH Child Intervention, Prevention, and Services (CHIPS) Research Fellowship, and was named a New York State Office of Mental Health Policy Scholar. She is active in the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT), currently serving as ABCT’s Membership Issues Coordinator. She is a licensed psychologist in New York State and maintains a private practice in Great Neck, Long Island, specializing in cognitive-behavioral therapy for children and adolescents, behavioral parent training, and dialectical behavior therapy for adolescents, young adults, and parents.
