Jonathan Beserra's Expertise
  • I completed my B.S in Applied Math, Electrical Engineering, and Chemistry with minors in Biochemistry and Computer Engineering from California State University Chico (2023). I am interested in graduate school for Electrical Engineering and research in a multidisciplinary setting combining embedded systems, bio-materials, signal processing, and mathematical modeling. I have a broad range of experience from academics ranging from organic synthesis, spectroscopic characterization of compounds, analytic method development, to digital system design, signal processing, and programming in : C++, Python, SystemVerilog, MATLAB, R, and LaTeX. I've been a tutor in Math and general science for more than 7 years between multiple colleges and on my own helping students ranging from beginning to advanced levels. I find fulfillment in developing student's confidence in their own abilities as well as inspiring curiosity and motivation to succeed. I think that sometimes people just need someone to listen and hear their ideas or thought process without fear of being judged or criticized, so I try to make my learning environments inclusive to different levels of skill and student backgrounds while encouraging positive progress. I think tutoring is a great way to learn communication skills, developing your own confidence, and way to gain experience by collaboration. I have done some research in the quantification of Vitamin K1 by HPLC UV-Vis to compare differences in homemade vs retail baby food. I learned from this that method development is a blend of science and creative effort. There is a lot of time and energy that goes into research which requires patience and endurance. I think after graduate school, I'd like to do some research and work in industry and then eventually become a professor myself. There's a lot more I could say about myself and my perspective on life and work but I think this is an appropriate
