- As a postdoctoral research fellow at City of Hope, I am passionate about investigating the molecular and cellular mechanisms of skeletal muscle health and dysfunction in diabetes and other metabolic disorders. I work in the Thurmond Lab, where I focus on novel protein targets and drug candidates for reversing or preventing mitochondrial damage and insulin resistance in muscle cells. I have extensive wet-laboratory experience in both in vitro and in vivo studies, using various techniques such as genetic screens, pharmacological treatments, biochemical assays, and metabolic tests. I have also published multiple papers in peer-reviewed journals, including JCI Insight, Future Neurology and Human Molecular Genetics. I obtained my PhD in biomedical sciences from Keele University in 2021, where I studied muscle wasting and weakness in spinal muscular atrophy. I am eager to apply my skills and knowledge to advance the field of skeletal muscle research and contribute to the development of new therapies for metabolic diseases. In terms of future career prospects my main ambitions would be to remain as staff scientist, transition to clinical scientist with focus on molecular biology and genetics or move into industry in a role such as medical science liaison. I have no interest in any sales jobs or anything related to customer service.
