  • When I was in high school and really into skateboarding, I quickly became frustrated with the design of the board I was using. So with the help of a friend I set to out to build my own—first researching what materials to use, building a custom mold and press for forming the curved board deck, laminating layers of wood together with a special glue, and finally shaping it into that familiar round tailed skateboard shape. There were many failed attempts along the way but I eventually ended up with a finished product. I even painted the bottom so I’d be skating in style. The first ride down the street was a thrill knowing every detail of the board under my feet was something I had put thought and effort into. It was the same story a year later when I was learning to play the guitar but didn't have money for my amp's speaker cabinet. I researched the materials, measured existing designs, and built my own cabinet. And again, when a small group us in woodshop designed and built a full-sized authentic Hawaiian canoe from a whole tree, milled down into strips and laminated together over a mold. I spent much of my high school career covered a layer of sawdust. Over the last 15 years I’ve been architecting, designing, and building in code and pixels but the core principals remain the same—thinking outside the box, a willingness to experiment and continuously learn, knowing your toolset, and being able to clearly communicate your ideas with others. With these principals in mind, my partner Jessica and I founded Everyday Odyssey. Together we architect, design, and develop native mobile apps and responsive websites for clients both small and large. I’m always open to connecting so don’t hesitate to reach out. If you’re looking for design or development work you can connect with me here or through our website: everydayodyssey.com. Best, Kellan
