Ken Hach’s Expertise In the 1970’s the US had two energy crises and Ken Hach figured that the United States was not going to fix it. The renewables industry was in its infancy and Ken formed Hach Energy Systems becoming a distributor for American Solar King and Jacobs Wind Electric. He became the second largest Jacobs distributor in the United States. Then he received an offer from Zond Systems, a California wind developer to move to their Ft. Collins, Colorado regional office. Ken then accepted an offer to work with Synergics in Annapolis, MD as hydro-electric developer. He developed a 7.6 MW hydro plant for the City of Peru, Illinois on the Illinois River. The facility is still in operation, which provides 68% of all the residential electricity used by the City. Ken was then contacted by Zond and came to Iowa. Over the next three years he built the three largest wind plants in the world – at that time. He has continued leading the industry developing wind projects for various companies and has been a part of nearly 4,000 MW in the Midwest and Rocky Mountain states. The idea for a transmission line in the Midwest started in the mid ‘90s when Ken was in one of the windiest areas of South Dakota. He could see the tremendous wind potential, but it was without a market. The question was, “How do we get it to Chicago?” The answer came years later when he met Rick Stickle, President of Hawkeye Land, a company that purchased the entire easement rights of the bankrupt Rock Island Line. Ken negotiated an agreement with Hawkeye and has been seeking the right developer. Ken has done the research and has determined this concept is capable of moving as much as 5,000 MW of HVDC wind-generated power from Eastern SD and NW Iowa to the PJM grid system in Eastern Illinois. Specialties: Management and expertise of wind development.projects in U.S Contract negotiations - power purchase agreements, financing negotiation with over two dozen utilities on wind system interconnects Strategic planning for merger and acquisition Management of installation of over 1200 wind turbines Largest wind project in the world in 1998 and 1999 in Minnesota and 1999 in Iowa Numerous contacts within the industry in the U.S., as well as in Europe
