The former having concentrations in environmental analysis, resource management, and the use of geographic information systems. I am continuing my studies at WMU as a graduate assistant, and I am pursuing a career in the field of geospatial technologies and environmental sciences. My thesis focuses on the analysis of weather stressors/climate change on specific deciduous forests in Michigan. During my time at WMU, I have been able to acquire many transferable skills that will be applicable to my career field. I currently work as a GIS analyst for a civil engineering consulting company based in Kalamazoo, Michigan. In this position, I have performed data gap analyses that contributed to risk-based decision making for the Water Resources Division of the City of Kalamazoo. In addition to this work experience, I have also had the opportunity to participate in a Spanish internship course in which I acted as the lead instructor for an advanced English as a Second Language class at El Concilio in Kalamazoo. My internship course lasted for four months, but I continued to act as a volunteer instructor well into the summer before I began my graduate studies, as I enjoyed the organization and people. I am proud of my accomplishments at WMU, and I belong to several honor societies. I have enrolled in several STEM courses outside of my majors and I am proficient in a non-native language: qualities that have allowed me to be invited and inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. In both my majors, I demonstrated academic excellence and was also invited and inducted into the Gamma Theta Upsilon International Geographical Society. I am interested in analyzing the influence that we have on the environment. In my career I aim to assist in the process of protecting, conserving, or optimizing the use of natural resources and assets.
