  I just completed my graduate school education in Professional Mental Health Counseling at Lewis and Clark. Before entering graduate school, most of my job experience was in a Special Education classroom working as an Instructional Assistant. It was one of the greatest learning experiences of my life, and it helped me develop many skills that would be extremely helpful in my new career as a counselor. During my time at Lewis and Clark, I received an incredible education that challenged me to grow through classes such as Diversity and Social Justice, Trauma and Crisis Counseling Across the Lifespan, Addiction Counseling, and Assessment and Treatment Planning. I also had the opportunity to facilitate a group for middle school students to help them build skills in areas such as emotional regulation, conflict resolution, and building connections with others. In the Fall of 2018, I started practicum at the Lewis and Clark Community Counseling Center. I spent two semesters at the counseling center during which I saw individual clients and a couple for counseling. Not only did I start to hone the skills to be in a room with a client, I also learned to complete documentation, case notes, and treatment planning for clients. After practicum came to an end, I moved onto internship where I worked at the Domestic Violence Resource Center (DVRC). At DVRC, I worked with clients individually to process trauma, manage symptoms of mental health disorders, rebuild self-worth, and develop self-compassion skills. I also co-facilitated a 24-week psycho-educational group for clients. During group, the curriculum covered topics such as The Dynamics of Abuse, Cognitive Distortions, Communication, Unhealthy Relationships, and Self-Care/Self-Worth. I continued to complete professional documentation, case notes, and treatment plans with great attention to detail and timeliness. Currently, I am working at Family Solutions as a school-based Child and Family Therapist. My clients range from age 12-18 and come from a variety of backgrounds and identities. Working with youth again has given me the opportunity to practice the skills I learned in school and internship while challenging me to be adaptable to working with younger minds. I help clients process trauma, teach CBT and DBT skills as well as self-compassion and mindfulness/grounding exercises while retaining flexibility and versatility required for working with children and teens.
