Andrew Basham’s Expertise I recently completed postdoctoral training in the Division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacoeconomics of Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. My specializations include tuberculosis (TB), survivorship, violent injury, opioid utilization and safety, cohort study design, propensity score methods, missing data analysis, This training focused on drug-drug interaction (DDI) safety research using health insurance claims data (Medicare, Medicaid, MarketScan, Optum). My work includes investigating clinical risk of pharmacokinetically-interacting drugs. I work with researchers in developing DDI signal detection methods as well. As a side project I lead a program of research called Foundations for Pharmacoequity, investigating race and ethnicity variables in healthcare data. I am also a consultant on statistical methods for AYAZAZI RIGHTS and NEXT based in South Africa. My PhD dissertation focused on tuberculosis survivor health outcomes using linked immigration and healthcare data. I am now developing survivorship epidemiology as a sub-specialty, advancing epidemiologic theory by mixing them with qualitative research methods to study survivor-important outcomes with patients and families, care providers, and policy-makers. My aim is to advance survivor health through re-orienting clinical epidemiology to survivors’ perspectives. Questions about the nature of estimands relevant to survivor, appropriate statistical modelling of intermediate outcomes and survivor (selection) bias inherent in cohort study designs for survivor health outcomes, as well as the difficulties translating complex qualitative outcomes into meaningful measures and analyses using routinely-collected health system data, augmented with patient and provider communities involved at all stages of research: from topic and agenda-setting, to the interpretation and reporting of administrative data analysis results.
