Andrew Clapham’s Expertise Dr Andrew Clapham is an Associate Professor of Education Policy based in the Nottingham Institute of Education (NIE) at Nottingham Trent University (NTU). Prior to his academic role, he taught secondary science and mathematics in inner city schools in London and Nottingham for 12 years. Andrew examines the sociology of education in both his research and teaching, with a specific focus on education policy. Andrew is especially interested in how education policy is enacted and how that enactment differs from the assumption that policy is simply implemented. Andrew’s research is currently directed toward education governance, school inspection, mathematics education and non-formal learning evaluation. Additionally, Andrew is the lead academic for the S3 Methods Hub in the School of Social Sciences at NTU. The Methods Hub mobilises the methodological expertise within the School to support public, private and third sector organisations with their research. Andrew Chairs the Research and International Forum for the Universities Council for the Education of Teachers (UCET). He is also Chair of the British Educational Research Association (BERA) Risk Assessment and Audit Committee and sits on the BERA Finance and Operations Committee. Until the end of 2022, he was an Executive Editorial Board member for the journal Pedagogy, Culture and Society.
