Andrew Fleming’s Expertise As an economic and social development leader, my mission is to catalyze a smarter and more inclusive approach to development. I focus on building solutions and partnerships that assist in empowering better and more sustainable livelihoods by responding to peoples’ needs, aspirations, and rights—whether at a global or community level. Drawing from a wide range of teams, partners, thought-leaders and data-backed research, my approach to development is dynamic and aims to meet 21st Century challenges with 21st Century solutions and thinking. My current role as a Project Manager with Dalberg Advisors sees me leading global teams and engaging with clients in different sectors to create the approaches and partnerships needed to implement development solutions. I work across many different topics including investment for development and private sector support; healthcare; cities, climate, and mobility; agriculture; MSME and entrepreneurial support; and others—all while constantly learning new insights and perspectives about each. One of my favorite parts about this job is mapping out the different ways that partnerships between the private sector, community groups, and public sector can help better achieve collective impact—particularly through shared resources and investment strategies. Working on LGBTQ+ inclusion is a personal passion of mine, and I am proud to lead Dalberg’s global LGBTQ+ employee resource group. Much of my professional experience is rooted in my passion for cities as spaces of creation and impact. My urban work has focused on finding new solutions for issues like affordable housing, environmental issues, accessible quality healthcare, and MSME support for urban businesses. In cities, I have worked to solve some of the most challenging problems facing our world today like climate change, access to shelter, and racial and historic inequalities. Key to this has been an insistence on human-centered research methods that incorporate differing histories, narratives, and challenges to create interventions that bring people to a common or shared goal. Across all of my work, I aim to build deliberately systemic and intersectional solutions in response to the rapidly changing problem sets we face in the world today. Challenges in areas like climate change, healthcare, racial and gender justice, and others cannot be solved alone. To truly improve livelihoods around the world, solutions must bring multiple perspectives, data, and ideas together to generate the inclusive step-change needed in how the world approaches development.
