  I am currently a student at Owens Community College. I am in the Physical Therapist Assistant program and I'm graduating in May of this year. During my time at Owens, I helped with several fundraising events as well as tutoring and mentoring several of my fellow classmates. I completed two clinical assignments, with my third starting this Spring. Through those clinical experiences I gained knowledge of outpatient and inpatient care. After my third clinical experience I will be prepared to start my career in the outpatient physical therapy setting. Since 2006, I've been self employed as a Licensed Massage Therapist in the Toledo, OH area. I have volunteered my massage services at various community events. I have experience in salons, gyms, and holistic settings. I handle all clerical work, scheduling, marketing, and SOAP notes. Although massage is a passion of mine, I have always wanted to pursue physical therapy. In order to obtain more exposure to the physical therapy field, I recently accepted a job as an in-home caregiver for seniors with dementia. This job has prepared me to be a PTA in many ways. I assist with transfers, ambulation, ADLs, IADLs, transportation, and companionship. I have been able to connect with and care for my clients in ways that are rewarding for me and makes their quality of life a little better. The closer I get to my goal, the more evident it becomes that I made the right choice. After my PTA licensure in July, I will gain experience with my career locally for the following 3 years. I want to incorporate my knowledge of massage therapy and my desire to help people into my physical therapist assistant role. After 2023, I will pursue my dream of becoming a traveling PTA.
