A third manuscript (“Recovery of nickel, cobalt, and platinum from solution by Tamarix usneoides in vitro”) has been submitted to the International Journal of Phytoremediation (currently under consideration). Through my academic and industry experience, I have attained multidisciplinary knowledge in water, soil, and plant sciences, along with a strong working knowledge of South African environmental legislation. I have facilitated, and been involved in the lifecycle of, numerous government and private applications for environmental and water use authorisations throughout the Western Cape, Northern Cape, Kwa-Zulu Natal, Gauteng, and Eastern Cape provinces. During my studies I was awarded Membership to the Golden Key Honorary Society, and successfully procured National Research Foundation (NRF) and the Technology & Human Resources for Industry (THRIP) funding for my research. I was awarded the Christopher Cresswell prize for most outstanding student in plant physiology, as well as the Postgraduate Merit Award. I have served as a judge on the International Selection Panel at the ISF Eskom Expo for Young Scientists for two consecutive years (2018 and 2019). I am passionate about environmental conservation and value inter-disciplinary research to create holistic solutions to solve complex challenges, and promote the effective management of natural resources.
