In 1994, he completed his M.Eng. in Environmental Engineering from Clarkson University, Potsdam, New York and obtained his PhD in 2004 from University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) (now known as University of Manchester), UK. He started his career at UTM in 1990 and is currently a Professor acting as the Director at the Centre for Environmental Sustainability and Water Security (known as IPASA), UTM. Dr. Azmi has worked in different areas of water pollution control. He has strong research interest in the field of water and wastewater treatment particularly in the removal of recalcitrant compounds. He has been working on the removal of color from textile effluent and palm oil mill effluent (POME) using Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) and biogranules degradation process. In addition, he has several on-going research work related to sewage treatment focusing on nutrients removal and recovery. Besides treatment processes, Dr. Azmi is also involved in water quality management projects related to lake and river water quality enhancement. At present, Dr. Azmi has about 150 scientific and technical publications in journals, proceedings and technical reports. He was the Head Department of Water and Environmental Engineering at UTM.
