Barry Beith’s Expertise PROFESSIONAL PHILOSOPHY: A human factors and ergonomics expert, Dr. Beith has developed an executive philosophy over the last 21 years which blends diversity, integration, and process into a formula for product evolution and creative revolution. Diversity of perspective, skills, and capabilities recognizes that different perspectives based on training, experience, and personality, provide different and important perspectives on products, and processes. Integration of these diverse perspectives is critical to the development of teams that can provide rich and innovative solutions to both simple and complex issues. This integration requires combining research and design skills and personas into teams which can work through the traditional angst of left-brain, right-brain collaboration to provide a complete view of product evolution as well as the opportunity for revolutionary creativity. Process dynamics need to occur at two levels. The fundamental process level requires an iterative process of user-centered design which alternates and integrates research, design, and test activities in a continuous effort of verification, validation, and user acceptance. The higher process level benefits the longer view by focusing on research data and design options for a product, process, or service provision as well as from competition, that provides a trajectory into the future and helps facilitate combining customer views and feedback with development and market knowledge. In other words, combining customer perspectives with company leadership. Dr. Beith has evolved this philosophy through practice and iteration. He believes it to function best in a context which recognizes that “business is very personal” and success comes from mutual respect and appreciation for the skills and perspective of others within a team culture.
