After graduating, he worked as an area supervisor for a brewery, but soon realizing that selling beer wasn't quite his cup of tea, and that the only contact he now had with France was the labels on bottles of wine, he went back to the same university to obtain a teaching diploma. He then taught French before successfully applying to go on a year's teacher exchange during which he taught English in a lycée in Eastern France. And it was such a wonderful, mind-broadening experience that he never came back! Setting up his own English-language teaching, translation and interpreting business, the next forty years gave Barry the opportunity to observe and experience many of those things which go to cause the only similarity between French and English to be the colours of their flags. Barry lives with his French companion, Renée, in the town of Saint-Claude, located in the Jura region of France. Hobbies, interests and pastimes include golf, gardening, foreign travel, the 19th century English, French and American novel, blogging, book-reviewing ... and, of course, creative writing. Retired
