Beata Kasale’s Expertise Beata Kasale owns and is the publisher of The Voice, which is currently Botswana’s best selling newspaper. With over 20 years experience in journalism and photography, Kasale has worked as a Consultant in various spectrums including market research, needs assessments and evaluation of media, HIV/AIDS and community radio initiatives among others. She has worked extensively with organisations including Panos Institute, Open Society Institute of Southern Africa (OSISA), International Media Women’s Foundation (IWMF) African Comprehensive HIV/AIDS Partnership (ACHAP), Ministry of Health Botswana, Commonwealth Secretariat, Commonwealth Press Union (CPU), International Centre for Journalists (ICFJ), Steps for the Future, Gender Links and AMARC. Kasale as the Local Media Trainer for the Washington DC Based IWMF, Maisha Yetu a programme which was run in Senegal, Kenya and Botswana trained journalists from Botswana media houses on reporting health with emphasis on the need to enhance the quality of reporting HIV/AIDs, Malaria and TB as well as to mainstream gender into news coverage. She is a Board Advisory member and Africa Strategic Advisor for WAN IFRA in their Women in News initiative which has over 50 participants Botswana, Namibia and Zambia. She is currently working on a project with Gender Links aimed at developing Gender Policies in Botswana media houses. Kasale is a Commonwealth Elections Observer and is the Acting Chairperson of the Botswana Media Consultative Council and a member of the Media Advisory Council. She has been Chairperson of the Vision 2016 Awards adjudicators for the past four years. She published a children’s book, The Treasure in the Garden with Heinemann, UK in 2001. Kasale is a recipient of the Presidential Certificate of Honour, 2010 in her contribution to the development of Botswana. She advocates for the rights of Basarwa (San/Bushmen).
