Benjamin Schildkraut’s Expertise I am a graduate student at the Florida Institute of Technology currently pursuing a Masters in Aerospace Engineering. I graduated from the University of Massachusetts Lowell in 2023 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in History. I am interested in the aerospace industry and classic vehicle restoration. My most recent position was as a Mechanical Engineering Intern in the Combat Systems Office at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. There I was tasked with analyzing operational deficincies related to hydraulic and pneumatic firing systems to identify technial solutions in order to maintain the US Navy Submarine fleet. I supervised work and testing to assist in troubleshooting damaged parts and systems and authoered technical documents that outlined the repair and testing procedures. My positions before this was as a Mechanical Engineering Co-op at QinetiQ US. There I was tasked with retrofitting state-of-the-art, lightweight armor for the C130E/H airframe to meet the operational, mission-critical needs of the United States Air Force, Army, and NATO allies. I did this by implementing design and configuration modifications to increase usability while reducing the installed weight to fit the needs of the current combat theater. Previous projects include the Formula SAE Capstone Project, UMASS Lowell AIAA Design, Build, Fly competition, the restoration of a 1974 Chevy C10, and the development of a steam turbine system. For the capstone project I was tasked to work in a team of two to design, test, and manufacture a steering system for the UMASS Lowell Formula SAE team. My responsibilities included generating CAD and FEA models to simulate steering mechanisms under driving loads as well as creatign a geometric steering design to limit tire slip. My role for the AIAA Design team was the system integration analyst and the mission systems lead engineer. My responsibilities included creating an autonomous payload deployment system and an integrated cad model for simulations. The restoration included: the disassembly and reassembly of the engine to troubleshoot, diagnose, and fix combustion issues, rewiring the vehicle from headlight to taillight, and replacing several mechanical parts such as the brake and fuel systems. The turbine system required designing a superheater and condenser, procuring a steam generator through contact with vendors, and designing Rankine cycles. Technical Skills: CREO Parametric, MATLAB, SolidWorks, ANSYS, Abaqus, Windchill Microsoft Office Suite, Troubleshooting, Prototyping, FEA, CAD, CFD
