  Hello, My name is Brendan! My main passions are Linux systems administration and IT security; I've been using various Linux distros since I was 16 - I started with Debian based distros and ended up extremely pleased with Red Hat based systems. I started out with simple LAMP forum setups, and recently have been very intrigued by and focusing on virtualization technologies: OpenVZ, Vmware's various offerings, Xen, and Joanna Rutkowska's work (Especially on Qubes OS). Additionally, I also have a lot of experience in hardware (board level) diagnostics and repair of solid state electronics. For a while I made a living solely on income from repair and resale of electronic devices, so I can say I am confident with this type of work - fortunately I've worked at a few employers early on who've given me the means to develop these skills which I now mostly enjoy in my spare time. Currently I'm working as a freelance System Administrator - eventually I'd like to transition into a more security-focused role - specifically I'd like to do red team or penetration testing as a full time job. Eventually, when I return to higher education to pursue a degree, I'm likely going to major in Organic Chemistry - I find the problem solving skills and analytical thinking between IT and Chemistry to be very appealing and similar. I'd like someday to contribute back in some way to the scientific community, be it novel drug design, pharmacology, or building novel information security solutions for a world growing quickly more insecure.
