In recent years Mr. Adair’s work has focused on ESA and NEPA Compliance, watershed assessment, and applying the Geographic Information Software (GIS) technology to environmental assessments. As an Aquatic Ecologist with the Tennessee Valley Authority, Mr. Adair has used GIS to delineate and map aquatic and wetland habitat for sensitive aquatic species in the Tennessee River Valley. Mr. Adair has identified and mapped potential reintroduction sites for freshwater mussels along the Elk River, Tennessee. He also participated in freshwater mussel surveys in the Duck River, Tennessee that were part of an ongoing habitat suitability study in the Tennessee River Valley. Mr. Adair is well versed in the biology and ecological functions of freshwater mussels. While working for the Tennessee Cooperative Fishery Research Unit at Tennessee Technological University, Mr. Adair conducted research on the ecology and localized distribution of juvenile freshwater mussels. Mr. Adair was also involved in monitoring of experimental populations of freshwater mussels throughout Tennessee and Kentucky. Mr. Adair conducted research to determine the fish host for the endangered Cumberland pigtoe mussel (Pleurobema gibberum) and subsequently coathored a paper for a peer reviewed journal.
