Brian Dunlap’s Expertise I am a native of Los Angeles, an educator and an author. I explore race and place and the intersection of the two in fiction, nonfiction, poetry and book reviews, focusing on Los Ángeles. I am the author of the chapbook "Concrete Paradise" from Finishing Line Press. I am also experienced in curriculum development, having created two versions of my own creative writing workshop on place based writing: Los Angeles: Your City and Your Place, plus academic writing workshops. I am available for author readings and author visits at high schools, colleges, literary arts organizations, etc. where I mainly read my stories about/discuss/advocate for place, the importance of place and capturing the stories of place, of a community and its residents, especially the stories that are often hidden in plain sight. I've published book reviews, poems and essays in publications such as: PacificREVIEW, CCM-Entropy, California Quarterly, Statement Magazine, Lit Pub, and L.A. Parent. Plus, my poem “Those Who Came Before Us,” won the 2018 Jeff Marks (renaimed Marvin Bell) Memorial Poetry Prize from december magazine judged by former Los Ángeles Poet Laureate Luis J. Rodriguez. In education I have worked with marginalized student populations mostly in the realm of writing curriculum and English by helping them develop the skills to express their authentic ideas, whether creatively or academically, and to see themselves reflected in the curriculum. Other experience in the education and literary fields are: Curriculum development, course development, creative writing, academic writing, mentorship, author events, writing workshops and anti-racist work. My author website is: www.briansdunlap.com. I am also Editor-in-Chief of the online magazine that covers the Los Ángeles literary community, Los Angeles Literature.
