While the facility waited for capital expenditures to resume, these strategies allowed the facility to remain viable and compete with mills which were utilizing newer, more cost-effective technology. • I led cost reduction efforts, such as restructuring the workforce, replacing an old boiler house with package boilers to reduce steam costs (25MM), and restructuring the power grid to reduce electricity costs. • I worked collaboratively with corporate finance in selling excess property (tax reduction) and merger and acquisition activities during the Arcelor / Mittal merger and later during the Cleveland Cliffs acquisition. • I developed the business case, along with Sales and Marketing, to install three tension levelers (20MM) in order to improve product quality and compete with imported products. • As a reliability engineer in the hot strip mill, I led the team that dramatically reduced downtime for a “shear spacer” delay that had been chronically impacting production.
