  When I started out as a general dentist (GDP) I used to dread performing root canal treatment (endo). I finally plucked up the courage to ask a colleague who was pretty good at it for some tips. I never looked back! I caught the bug and went on to train in the USA under some of the biggest names in the field. When I returned, I built an impressive endo referral list in the Midlands. I saw my colleagues struggle with endo and it frustrated me. Experience had taught me that with the right training and support they could carry out their treatments successfully and avoid any feelings of anxiety about performing root canal. Alongside my clinical work I started to consult for some of the largest global corporates, including Dentsply, Brasseler, Prima Dental and W&H. Getting into the detail of the instruments fascinated me. I’ve always been quite entrepreneurial, so it wasn’t too long before I started to think of ways to create better instruments AND make them affordable for the average dental practice. I also wanted to help GDPs overcome their fear of root canal treatments. I took the leap and established Endoperfection in 2019. I gathered a team of awesome people and after a lot of hard work we became the first UK file manufacturer and created the VaryFlex range of files. We launched the files in 2020, just as the pandemic took hold. The timing was awful, but we really believed in these files. And it turns out that others did too! Sales started to come in, and we started to attract interest from corporate groups, as well as distributors in the UK and also Europe. In 2021 we started to win awards. It made the hard work worthwhile and gave us the motivation to continue. Alongside the files we started to run training courses for GDPs because that fear of endo had not gone away. It had been made worse by the pandemic. I’m now on a mission to help GDPs perform effective root canal treatment with high quality (but affordable) instruments, and the right training and support.
