Chris Fitzsimons’s Expertise Based on career experience in the “Big 4” financial advisory sector, then as a Divisional Finance Director for a quoted production company in the UK and most recently as partner in a change-management firm yourCFO, I aim to add value in three areas: a) Analysis and problem-solving skills for decision-takers With experience built firstly on audit and then on both sides of the corporate finance profession in both due diligence analysis and capex appraisal/ valuation as a Finance Director, I have strong reporting and problem-solving skills. This has proven useful in building investor confidence. On a three-year change-management assignment I coordinated a Steering Committee which developed a 10 year Business Plan (after stress-testing), initiated the search for fresh finance and instigated redundancies. b) Balancing of interests, strong case-building skills Investment transaction experience on the “buy” and “sell” side in UK, France and Italy has provided me with diverse exposure to unlocking economic potential based on negotiating and balancing of competing interests between buyers and sellers. This has proven to be useful in seeing "both sides". I am a qualified Mediator (UK and France) and have managed two turnaround situations in which shareholders took a decision to request protection of the law in the form of Administration procedures, under the authority of the High Court. Quantifying and monitoring the finance need allowed us to start the process of solving the problem. I believe in looking for win-win situations for "both sides", winning a pitch in London for the flotation of an Italian football club by emphasizing the need for fee sharing between (independent) London and Milan offices of Ernst & Young. c) Cultural "bridge" between investors and operational teams Having benefitted from an education and upbringing in a dual-cultural environment (Liverpool-Irish) and also from international work experience (UK, France, Italy, Tanzania), I can effectively bridge between investors/ decision-takers, operational teams and other stakeholders including government authorities. This has proven to be useful in conflictual and cross-border situations. For example in Italy, I integrated financial reporting from an SME family environment into a quoted group’s monthly accounts. I then performed an ambassadorial role on the advantages of group membership to a second company, negotiating purchase of a majority stake and managing the post-acquisition integration process. I am a part-time teacher of Finance and Economics at universities in Paris.
