Christian Gehman’s Expertise Prizewinning novelist and journalist with a daily food column in The Charlottesville Daily Progress for five years, and a weekly restaurant review column in Richmond's Style Weekly for two years. Scribner's blessed me with its MAXWELL PERKINS PRIZE for my bittersweet comic novel ... beloved Gravely ... set in Charlottesville and Mexico; the book was also runner-up for The Virginia Prize in 1984. Later on, Bill Smart actually told me that the committee would have given me the Virginia Prize if I had let them know Scribner's was about to publish it. Currently , I'm hoping to find a publisher for Why We Love Brunettes -- an early draft was runner-up for the AWP Fiction Prize in 1989, VCU actually accepted it as my MFA thesis, so there is a copy of the earliest finished draft somewhere in the VCU stacks. I wrote most of it on my IBM Wheelwriter, and then a few years ago retyped it into Word. I have published in articles in THE NEW YORK TIMES, SELF Magazine, Indianapolis Magazine, The Charlottesville Daily Progress, The Omaha World Herald and The Kingston Daily Freeman. I wrote restaurant reviews for STYLE WEEKLY in Richmond, Virginia, and still post now and then on Urban Spoon. The environmental website I created -- www.eieio.org -- was focused on posting short articles about and photographs of environmental problems all over Virginia -- can still be found on the Internet Archive at https://web.archive.org/web/19990220202233/http://eieio.org/ I owned a PROFITABLE RESTAURANT / CATERING BUSINESS in Charlottesville, and it is still possible to talk me into catering or consulting on catering for small gatherings. My experience as a writer includes: Newsletters, Business Plans, Web Concept and Content Development, Ghostwriting, Speech Writing, Food Writing, Recipe Writing, Cookbook Writing, Radio and TV Spots, Print Ads, Descriptions of Real Estate, and Family Histories.
