My mentors supported continuous education in Dale Carnegie Leadership training, in getting Certified Revenue Management Executive status, and supporting ongoing education as president of Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association for the New England Chapter. I developed my skills in practicing leadership through integrity and practical business communication skills. I enjoyed working in the hospitality industry, although it was not something I loved. Pursuing my passion for becoming a future educator was a decision that I knew would require perseverance. Returning to school was an adjustment and required discipline and time management to succeed. Planning time to focus on my academics, limiting distractions, and prioritizing were essential skills I needed to incorporate into my life. An Interdisciplinary Studies degree allows me the flexibility to combine the knowledge and experiences learned with the education and skills required to be a highly effective teacher. The classes are a combination of educational courses designed for me to prepare for teaching and courses which complement them. Nonverbal Communications is a complementing course which I find incredibly beneficial in the classroom. It is also fascinating, which allows me to the ability to be creative and share something fun with students. Earning a teacher's trust allows me the opportunity to gain teaching experience. Teachers provide me with detailed lesson plans to implement during their absence from school as opposed to leaving busy work for the children to complete during their absence. The value of learning and applying what I am learning in a classroom is extraordinary. I care about each student learning what I am teaching and providing them with the support and guidance they need. I am learning how to teach the whole child, through guidance, compassion, patience, and practice, to achieve mastery levels of learning.
