Colman spent the last 2 years battling the pandemic at eMed, joining when the company was only 14 people as Principal Designer for core platform and R&D efforts, bringing COVID testing home in affordable, safe, and scalable ways. Prior to that, Colman spent 3.5 years at Magic Leap, leading product discovery, interaction, and experience design, and contributing to research in the Interaction Lab. He built proofs of concepts and interactive demos showing what's possible in XR, attracting partnerships and funding from Fortune 500 companies and world leaders. He contributed to city scale projects, advised partners such as the Royal Shakespeare Company, and embedded in trenches with experts across a range of industries from healthcare to retail to shipping & logistics, designing 1st party solutions utilizing intuitive natural human interactions. Colman led interaction and platform design for Gesture and Gaze-based systems, publishing best practices and shipping developer-facing sample projects to illustrate them with "Magic Kit." Colman is also an experienced public speaker with top ratings on talks given at conferences such as QCon. He knows how to get an audience pumped up! Before working in XR, Colman was a game designer for 11 years. He created and led the critically acclaimed games "Smite" and "Jetpack Fighter" from early prototypes built at his desk to profitable AAA releases with tens of millions of MAU. He knows how to monetize as a pioneer of Free-to-Play, putting the first F2P game on Steam (Global Agenda), then doing it again by bringing Smite to Xbox and Playstation. A master of lean agile development processes, Colman knows how to be scrappy when speed is the core constraint and how to polish for external audiences. His motto is "fail fast." A high output individual contributor as well as collaborative team lead, Colman founded the mobile incubator at Hi-Rez Studios, staffing a 20+ person cross-functional Unity team from scratch and leading it to deliver Jetpack Fighter, a critically acclaimed 5-star game, featured numerous times on the iTunes store. Colman has a formal education in Computer Science and background in art and music, making him an ideal bridge between creatives and engineers with an intuitive understanding of scope. He approaches projects with a blend of heart, business savvy, and ethics and knows how to quickly "find the fun," focus on an MVP, and pivot when needed.
