Born in Venezuela, from an early age I learned how to take advantage of every opportunity given to me. In Venezuela, universities are not supportive of athletic endeavors. So, at the age of 16, I had to choose between 2 of my dreams: becoming an Olympic athlete or receiving a degree in mathematics. In order to pursue both my passions, I left my life in Caracas and moved to Los Angeles to attend the University of Southern California (USC). Swimming at a Division 1 university was a major commitment. I balanced my time between 6 hours of intense training and multiple rigorous mathematical courses every day. Although challenging, I enjoyed every minute of my journey because I knew I was given an opportunity that most of my friends back home were not. My hard work paid off. I graduated USC with a degree in Applied and Computational Mathematics and as a 6-time NCAA Division 1 Champion, 17-time All-American, Team Captain, and 3-time Olympian. Three years later, I finished a master’s degree in Business Analytics from the same school while accomplishing many more international achievements in swimming. As a professional athlete for over 10 years now, I’ve grown to love challenges. I’m very detailed-oriented, so when digging into a hard problem, I focus deeply on the process and methodology of my analysis while always keeping the goal in mind (something I learned from swimming). I like finding patters in data, and moreover, creating value from them. I’m also a very curious person with a desire for continuous learning, so I tend to ask a lot of questions and encourage the people around me to please correct me when I’m wrong. Currently, I am looking for a place that will allow me to combine and expand my passions in entertainment, mathematics, and analytics, so that I can continue growing and become a powerful asset in the industry.
