Daniel Pfannes’s Expertise Recently appointed as the Deputy Director for the Michigan Sheriffs' Association. Is an experienced law enforcement professional. Has served in law enforcement for nearly 40 years, with 25 of those years spent in the capacity of an executive officer: attained over 14 years as undersheriff for three consecutive sheriffs in Wayne County, Michigan's largest county, and 4 years as the chief of police in the city of Westland, Michigan's tenth largest city. During his executive tenure, has gained experience and demonstrated proficiency in serving as management’s representative dealing with employee relations, contract negotiations, grievance resolutions and labor arbitrations, the provision of court room and deposition testimony, and the consummation of Intergovernmental agreements. Has a strong educational background, having attained a master’s degree in criminal justice and by graduating from a number of prestigious law enforcement programs, such as the FBI National Executive Institute, FBI LEEDS, FBI National Academy, PERF’s Senior Management Institute of Policing, and Northwestern University/Eastern Michigan University's School of Police Staff and Command. Represents the interests of law enforcement serving on a number of committees, inclusive of the legislative committees for both the Michigan Sheriff's Association and the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police. He also serves on the board of directors for the Michigan Automobile Theft Prevention Authority, being appointed to serve by two successive governors, currently serving in the role of chairman of the board. Has been an educator in the field of criminal justice since 1989, currently holding the position of assistant professor and positions on a number of advisory boards and committees., including the Michigan Chapter of the FBI National Academy Associates and the advisory board for Eastern Michigan University's School of Police Staff and Command.
