Laboratory equipment proficiencies obtained over the course of the project include gel electrophoresis apparatus, water baths, programmable thermocyclers, -20oC and -80oC freezers, liquid nitrogen canisters, spectrophotometers (including Agilent nanodrop bioanalyzer), Firmtec 2 fruit texture analyzers, TA.HDPlus Connect texture analyzer, autoclaves (both digitally controlled and manual), light microscopes, and incubators. Other aspects of my work consisted of laboratory management and greenhouse management. Laboratory management consisted of reporting need for additional supplies, testing and calibrating equipment and reporting equipment malfunction, assisting with setting up new lab equipment, assisting with storage of samples and storage reorganization, and correct storage/disposal of hazardous waste chemicals within lab prior to pick-up. Greenhouse work consisted of learning details of specific plant species living requirements, formulating soil composition prior to potting, potting, watering, replanting, tissue culture and cutting propagation work, and pesticide application.
