Deborah Chew’s Expertise I am a change maker at heart. And I believe that to create change effectively, is to first to start small, and to start with the self. It is for that reason that I have often found myself seizing opportunities to learn, relearn and unlearn; for it is through learning that I find myself humbled, ready to leverage the knowledge and experience of others and in that process, develop a better version of myself to effect change. With a mission to improve the learning conditions of children in Cambodia, I founded Project Happy Feet in 2007 as a simple concept to provide footwear to barefooted children there as they walked to school. That idea soon grew beyond the country and evolved to supporting underprivileged children through education and training, because I believed that education was the solution to eradicating poverty. Working with partners, listening to them, and understanding the local landscape helped me shape the fully volunteer-run organisation, managing donor funds in excess of 1 million, and disbursing them fully to empower thousands of underprivileged children and youth in Asia through education and training. I thrive when I am tasked with projects that demand improvements and innovation. I enjoy making the impossible possible, and to join the dots where others see gaps. I find joy when I can create financial and operational efficiencies, and when I am able to lead, guide and mentor. I find it most rewarding when I can impact positive change through the work I do, speaking up for the underserved and finding opportunities for them to shine. My current interests are in creating change, contributing back to the community, creating social impact and in championing sustainability efforts. Core competencies: Branding/Brand Positioning • Business Strategy & Operations • Communications • Design Thinking • Education/Pedagogy • Financial Management • Marketing • Non-profit sector • Optimising efficiency • Writing Interests: CSR • Community • Social Impact • Sustainability • Woman Leadership • Education • Healthcare
