Deepankar Pal’s Expertise Deepankar cofounded 3DSIM. His thesis, postdoctoral work and a patent on novel computational AM simulation served as the technical base for 3DSIM. Deepankar served and led the company as a Chief Science Officer. 3DSIM got acquired by ANSYS in 2017. Deepankar has 18 years of experience (I was simultaneously employed at 3DSIM and University of Louisville for a period of time). His doctoral work in computational predictive AM started in an experimental laboratory leading to an academic simulation startup by contributing successful technical portions of/full proposals which allowed funding for his colleagues followed by a commercial startup, 3DSIM. Deepankar is known for writing the fastest and most accurate thermal solver for dynamic problems. Specific applications and salient features are as follows: 1) Prediction of residual stresses as a function of process parameters. Inherent and scan pattern based methods only provide geometry and scan pattern based residual stress response. 2) Allows for prediction of ICME. 3) Provides Versatility: Can use layman's lumping (in every FEM book) to take care of thermal diffusion condition or penetration condition although since i->j and j->i connections in Specific heat matrix are lost, he also devised a physics based scaling approach. 4) Provides Materials Innovation by incorporating non-equilibrium analogs of CALPHAD based thermophysical properties. A path forward towards custom property and alloy design. Deepankar is currently involved in Coupled thermomechanical property Prediction and Optimization aspects in ICME and Additive Manufacturing alongwith formulation and implementation of a) Non-conventional Linear Algebra analogs to ease visualization of complex materials for ICME and complex parts for AM. b) FEA in nonconventional contemporary distributed environments. c) Faster FEA using contemporary mathematical and learning constructs. Philosophy: Respect your peers and all cultures. They may know more than you and may do it better than you. Doesn't harm to just respect and share and learn.
