Dom Weldon’s Expertise Experienced software engineer, consultant, and communicator with a passion for using technology to build things that solve problems. I have experience in sectors across finance, defence, manufacturing, energy and infrastructure, and am adept at learning new systems and offering fresh perspectives. I predominantly use the AWS (or Azure) cloud to build AI-driven tools that facilitate the building and training of machine learning (or conventional algorithmic/optimisation) models to handle workloads or provide app services to end users, and am currently exploring the use of large language models (LLMs) and generative AI, particularly in relation to building knowledge graphs. Please do get in touch if this is of interest to you! Python I talk regularly at conferences, very experienced with pandas, polars, numpy, SQLAlchemy, NetworkX, FastAPI, Flask, Django, boto3, etc. Supply chain security is a keen interest. JavaScript - React, Angular, Svelte and SvelteKit, material UI. Rust - used to speed up python with PyO3, also Rocket and the AWS lambda runtime. Web Development Keen interests in auth (including OIDC, OAuth, SAML) and practical cybersecurity and encryption. Amazon Web Services (AWS) I have architected solutions for many large clients, primarily serverless stacks, but also conventional server-based systems with EC2. Some services I use regularly are: AWS Lambda, Step Functions, Elastic Container Service (ECS), Sagemaker, SES, CodeSuite (CodeBuild, CodePipeline, CodeDeploy), DynamoDB, API Gateway + WAF, CloudFront, S3, Cognito, plus fundamentals with VPC, IAM controls including SCIM/SSO integrations. Graph Databases I have worked extensively with Neo4j since my PhD research. I am especially interested in how graph databases can be used with LLMs and retrieval augmented generation (RAG) systems. I have also built transactional web apps and search engines using Neo4j and other graph databases, including AWS Neptune. Iac: Infrastructure as Code Extensive experience with cross-cloud terraform and terragrunt. Also explored pulumi and CloudFormation. Relational databases/SQL: extensive experience with PostgreSQL and MySQL, alongside use of MSSQL, Oracle (inc stored procedures), Aurora. NoSQL Databases - frequent user of DynamoDB, MongoDB. DevOps - I use Docker extensively and have managed Kubernetes setups previously. I regularly design pipelines in CodeSuite, GitHub Actions, CircleCI, and other platforms. Other experience in Apache NiFi, Kafka, Airflow.
