  I have an M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Carboniferous palynology and more than 30 years industrial experience in applied biostratigraphy. In this time I have analysed over 350 Carboniferous well sections from the North Sea. In addition, I am currently working on the biostratigraphy of the Carboniferous substage stratotypes in northern England. I have provided consultancy analysis on over 100 Carboniferous well sections from around the world, including Algeria, Azerbaijan, the Barents Sea, Canada, onshore Europe, Kazakhstan, Libya, Ukraine and the USA, and on over 50 well sections of Devonian, Permian and Triassic age from Australia, the Barents Sea, Botswana, Canada, China, Colombia, Kazakhstan, Libya, the North Sea and South Africa. I also have consultancy and research interests in the stratigraphy and floral evolution of the non-marine Cretaceous of Mongolia and China. I served several terms as Secretary of the Palynology Group of The Micropalaeontological Society.
