I was born and raised in the small town of Richmond, Maine not far from Bath where my father works as a crane operator for General Dynamics. I grew up working on small farms and became a utility man for water districts when I was 17. I was introduced to the maritime trade while visiting college fairs at my high school, shortly after I applied to Maine Maritime Academy and graduated with my Bachelors Degree and major in Marine Transportation Operations in May 2010. I started my career with Military Sealift Command in fall of 2010. My first ship was the salvage vessel the USNS Salvor (used as diving platform for navy divers). Ever since then I have sailed as a third mate on multiple MSC tug and salvage ships conducting various tasks. Due to my experience with small crews and ship's reserved for uncommon operations I was recommended for the Joint High Speed Vessel Program (JHSV) now known as the EPF (Expeditionary Fast Transport) program. I was given a full training package by MSC to obtain my Chief Mate’s license and completed two hitches as a Chief Mate before working with Seaward Services. After completing two additional hitches with Seaward Services during the COVID-19 pandemic, I decided to take a position closer to home. I started a position as a Safety Engineer at Bath Iron Works. This was my first introduction to reviewing and rewriting safety policies and procedures. I supervised a small crew of Safety technicians on second shift and scheduled safe site audits, respirator fits, and various company courses for the operation of small equipment. I also investigated shipyard injuries/incidents and determined root causes with follow on actions.
