I found selling and up-selling easy, as my way to sell items as well as gaining regular customers was to... instead of pressurising and trying to push a sale for something they might not necessarily want (which can cause them to feel uneasy & not keen to shop with you again) I would pick a selection of items that I thought would look good on them, and make it an experience rather than "I just want to sell them something." I would pick clothing and accessories that would fit they're body type correctly and that would also accentuate their best assets. This I found made the customer have fun, feel comfortable with me and my advice and choices, and hopefully in the end felt confident, and happy with something they felt & looked good in. Even being Male, surprisingly Females felt comfortable with me to fit them into a corset which was obviously done one to one in a single dressing room (and at times would ask specifically for me to fit them!) At the age of 20 I became Manager and pretty much ran the business, and travelled to the London fashion shows. I had the opportunity to take over the business by having the option of buying it over 10 years, but due to private retail shops rapidly going out of business at that time, I refused because of the possible financial risk as much as it would have been my dream! Luckily I made the right decision as a year later, as successful as the business was, it's time had come and is now a Scotland Shop!!!! 😕 Grrrr! Looking For The Next Challenge And Job Opportunity
