Gerald Yoho’s Expertise I've recently graduated from CU Boulder's Aerospace Engineering program (having minored in RF electrical engineering). As I continue to grow as an engineer, I find myself especially drawn to projects and career paths involved with aerodynamics, thermodynamics, and, ultimately, propulsion engineering. In my free time, I often find myself doing research or design projects that are almost always engineering & manufacturing focused. Engineering is more than an academic or career path for me: its become a lifestyle! I've also become very experienced in 3D printing in a short time. After about 3 years of leading CU Boulder's Aerospace department's 3D, I have taken the initiative to learn the "ins and outs" of different styles of printers. In addition to managing more than ten 3D printers for the laboratory, I also run two printers of my own at home where I turn out various personal projects or solutions to everyday problems. 3D printing has encouraged me to teach myself to be versatile across different CAD & design platforms in order to customize parts for my needs. If there's one thing I that stood out to me most during my time as an undergrad, its that versatility (both with software as well as skills/knowledge across the board) is paramount to success! Versatility was an idea I kept in mind the entire time I was in college; I strived to broaden my knowledge base across every different kind of science/engineering I could in an attempt to stand out from the rest. I consider myself to have been exposed to more engineering material than most others who have graduated from the same program. While I don't think I could list them all, some of these areas of interest include chemistry, thermodynamics, aerodynamics, structures, coding in different languages, electrical circuits (digital, analog, & RF), propulsion, and more. I've done more than simple introductory courses on most topics to gain a deeper understanding of science/engineering (and worth noting: I excelled & did very well in each of these areas). While I enjoyed exploring all of these subjects just to simply *know more*, it was clear to me that what interested me the most were topics in fluid dynamics (especially super/hyper sonic flow, propulsion and nozzles). Although my journey as an aerospace engineer may just be getting started, I welcome the unknown future that lies ahead as an opportunity to specialize and become in expert in the field of propulsion engineering.
