I became the sole owner of Engel Timber in 1984 and it was essential for me and the business to continue trading in Libya. In the 80s there weren't many women travelling to Libya for business purposes and I consider myself lucky to have had the chance to obtain a visa. Lots of opportunities arose from my trips and I started to visit Libya every other week for more than 20 years. I have fond memories of my trips to Libya. During the 20 years I had the opportunity to get to know the whole country. I visited Benghazi, Sebha, Ubari, Shati, Derna, Tobruk and many more. I travelled by car to all of my meetings and still have contact with my fantastic driver Abdullah. Due to the situation in Libya I am currently focusing on trading within the gulf area, Sudan and Ethiopia. In general, I would like to express my gratefulness for the warm welcome I receive whenever I travel to the Middle East and Africa. But Libya is my home from home and I'm still in contact with many of the people I met whom I consider my close friends. I feel deep sadness about the developments in Libya during the past years and strongly hope for the situation to change.
