Hilan Warshaw’s Expertise Emmy Award-winning director and writer of documentaries including THROUGH THE DARKNESS (broadcast on ORF, SVT, YLE, and Medici TV); SECRET SONG (PBS-AllArts, Medici TV, SVT, Allegro HD, EuroArts); WAGNER'S JEWS (WDR/ARTE, PBS-WNET, Israel's Channel 8 and others); IN THE KEY OF BACH and MY BOLERO (both on PBS-Georgia Public Broadcasting); RACHMANINOFF REVISITED (WDR-ARTE; co-producer and editor); HONORABLE MR. MORGENTHAU (premiere theatrical run in September 2024) and the forthcoming THE FACES OF CARMEN and MAHLER IN NEW YORK (SVT). Since autumn 2020, Hilan has been video director of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra's "Behind the Curtain" series, directing multi-camera captures for on-demand release and local television broadcasts. He also writes and hosts "Piece by Piece," the orchestra's video series about the stories behind great music. He is a Hermitage Artist Retreat Fellow and has served as an International Emmy Awards and regional Emmy Awards juror. Besides his own films, Hilan's other writing and video editing credits include documentaries broadcast on PBS stations, ARTE, NHK and other international networks. He is currently in development on a feature screenplay. Alongside his film work, he has taught as guest faculty at Barnard College and Western Carolina University, and has been a speaker and panelist at venues including London's Barbican Centre, Stockholm's Royal Academy of Arts, Yale University, Boston University, NYU's Deutsches Haus, and the Morgan Library & Museum among many others. His essays on film and music, and other writings, have been published in anthologies from Cambridge University Press, McFarland Press, and Königshausen & Neumann, and in periodicals including The Wagner Journal and The New York Times (letters on the opinion page). He has produced and edited short-form video content for Carnegie Hall, Warner Classics, New York City Opera, the League of American Orchestras, Fund for the City of New York, and many others. Specialties: Film and video production and post-production; writing; teaching and lecturing experience; research, editorial and proofreading; background and education in music and theater; fluency in Hebrew and some competence in French.
