Hongchan Choi’s Expertise As a musician and engineer, I strive to push the boundaries of the open web platform for music technology. I believe that the web has the potential to democratize music making and make it accessible to everyone. I completed my doctoral research at CCRMA between 2010 and 2014, where I studied with Jonathan Berger, Chris Chafe, and Ge Wang. My doctoral thesis, 《Collaborative Musicking on the Web》, explored the possibilities of using the web as a platform for shared musical experiences. After graduating, I joined Google Chrome, where I currently lead various web technology projects, including audio and peripherals. In this role, I am responsible for developing new ways to use the web to create, share, and experience music. Outside of Google, I serve as co-chair of the W3C Audio Working Group. This group is responsible for developing standards for advanced audio capabilities on the web. I am also an Adjunct Professor at CCRMA at Stanford University, where I teach courses on web music technology.
