Isabelle Blake-James’s Expertise After graduating from King’s College London and La Sorbonne in Paris, I worked for 10 years as a City lawyer initially specialising in corporate/commercial law before moving into non-contentious probate and international tax for HNW individuals. As a second career, I freelanced as a highly skilled legal translator/interpreter and worked with the end client and various law firms around the world. I tremendously enjoyed working for 18 months directly with the Anti-Corruption arm of the United Nations based in Vienna as a specialist lawyer linguist. I have also translated law books, ran regular workshops for the translation diploma at City University and worked on the Libor scandal as a consecutive interpreter. My third life has taken me into education which is my other passion, currently working in a strategic role as Director of Philanthropy and Alumni Relations for an ambitious and forward thinking secondary school in south London which was named Independent Co-educational School of the Year 2020, and more recently won the prestigious TES Independent Senior School of the Year 2022 under my leadership, for the first time in the College’s history. To complete the trilogy, my department won the 2023 Independent School of the Year Award (ISOTY) for Outstanding Fundraising Campaign. IDPE Trustee and speaker at the 2024 IDPE & Headmasters’ Conference (HMC).
