  In 2017, I graduated from Emory University magna cum laude with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. In my senior thesis, I blended my wide range of passions (Spanish, sociology, anthropology, linguistics, music, race & gender studies), which were further enriched when I studied abroad in Nicaragua and Cuba. After graduating in 2017, I moved to NYC as an assistant teacher in a public elementary school with a focus on music education. Five years later, I have worked at schools in Indonesia, NYC, and Madrid, and been exposed to a diverse range of education systems, teaching philosophies, and students. I believe that relationship-building is an ongoing creative act. It’s very important to me to get to know each student personally, using presence, patience, active listening, respect, and encouragement as tools to see what makes them unique. My goal is to make each child feel cared for, so that when they are empowered by that positive attention, they feel more confident to participate in constructing a group dynamic and invested in a collaborative community. My favorite way to build and express human connection is through music. Attuning a group of people’s pitch, rhythm, and breathing in order to produce sound as one builds a special type of bond. Art allows the human spirit a type of freedom that is vital to our wellness, which is why I believe that arts education should be a therapeutic tool for socio-emotional learning.
