Responding to current events that infringe APIAs with an appropriate response that ranges from press releases to public demonstrations. Organizing and programming events and conferences that educates, connects, and increase visibility of Asian and Pacific Islander American issues. Maintaining and increasing an intergenerational, multiethnic membership. Managing the fiscal responsibilities of OCA-Greater Seattle through fundraising and grants. Nominated to joined the board after a successful run as a student intern. President since January 2015. Coordinated a national conference, A Passage to Seattle: Past, Present, and Future, and local grassroots conference, Pre-Conquest Indigenous Cultures and the Aftermath. Both conferences were a success in garnering a variety of speakers from Seattle, nationally, and Canada. Collaborated with local organizations like the University of Washington, Japanese American Citizens League, Heritage University, and more. Wrote grants to supplement conference budget, along with donations from attendees.Leading and lecturing a large class with 175 students. Lesson planning and facilitating discussion sections Meeting with students and clarifying key class points.Traveled to the Filipino American National Historical Society (FANHS)'s Seattle chapter to search for information regarding the International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 37 from 1950s to 1960s. Meeting with supervising professors and FANHS staff to find appropriate documents. Evaluating the use of certain documents, scanning materials, and documenting their location and file.Develop and implement culturally appropriate public health messaging for the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander community.Manage communication strategy and community engagement in response during the disaster recovery process. Organized stakeholder engagement with elected officials, local government, media, community organizations, and disaster survivors. Build and maintain effective relationships with media and held interviews over tv, radio, newspaper, Facebook live stream, and podcast.Preserving and increasing the accessibility to the International Examiner archive. Creating content by covering local events surrounding the Asian and Pacific Islander American community, interviewing community members and researching issues. Familiarity with print journalism and multimedia outlets such as books, videos, and social media. Working with other writers, photographers, and graphic designers in brainstorming story ideas and concept art. Originally started as a contributing writer to the International Examiner.Meeting with faculty members, academic advisers, and learning specialists to discuss student objectives and best ways for students to succeed in class. Tutoring students from various academic levels in American Ethnic Studies and History Experience in working with students who are at risked or have some difficulty in processing information Taking attendance of student athletes in class and recording class notes.Worked on the Cindy Domingo and Tyree Scott collection by taking inventory and archiving. Preserving these documents and categorizing them to increase accessibility to the public.Helping families by distributing educational materials door to door and talking about the importance of education. Worked a total of 761 hours in 11 weeks (69hrs/week) and met with 1915 families. Persistence Award I Wanna Win Award.
