Dr. Moon is also a member of the Biointerfaces Institute and Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Michigan. His translational research program aims to develop novel engineering tools for improving vaccines and immunotherapies. He has received numerous awards, including 2016 National Science Foundation CAREER Award, 2016 DOD-CDMRP Career Development Award, 2015 Melanoma Research Alliance Young Investigator Award, the 2012 NIAID Research Scholar Development Award, and the 2011 IEEE-EMBS Harvard Wyss Institute Award for Translational Research. Dr. James Moon is also a co-founder and Chief Science Officer at EVOQ Therapeutics, which develops nano-vaccine technologies for cancer immunotherapy. Dr. James Moon received his BS degree in Bioengineering at the University of California, Berkeley in 2002 and completed his Ph.D. in Bioengineering at Rice University in 2008. His doctoral work under the guidance of Professor Jennifer West was on the development of synthetic biomimetic hydrogels for cardiovascular tissue engineering applications. His graduate works were recognized with the Mary F.D. Morse Graduate Fellowship Award and Graduate Student Award from North American Vascular Biology. After his Ph.D., he joined the laboratory of Professor Darrell Irvine (HHMI) in the Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he developed nanoparticulate vaccines against malaria and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
