Janet Ahola’s Expertise Aside from two short breaks, one to have our son and one to move countries, from the UK to Finland, my career has spanned 35 years. Beginning as a financial analyst I moved into IT Project Management 10 years later. My project management career has centered on complex data warehouse and CRM, large scale, international IT projects, in multiple industries. I created a solid track record of meeting deadlines and achieving goals, successfully managing and delivering multiple implementation projects to our customers, staffed with international teams based in different locations. In my previous role, as Operations Excellence Manager in the IT PMO, I was a key contributor and influencer in developing, deploying and improving, key processes and best practices to support project management, so ensuring value delivery to the business. I am passionate about continuous learning, new and improved ways of working to meet changing needs of our customers, both internal and external. I had the pleasure of being a key member of an initiative to raise the awareness of Agile in the company. The successful pilot has led to a second wave of the program focusing on leaders. The program is set to continue and be rolled out across the company. Utilising my analytical skills and business acumen, alongside my sound working knowledge in project management best practices, my drive for improving our ways of working, focus on delivering value and securing an environment of psychological safety, has resulted in the implementation of a number of key initiatives: Project healthchecks – through proactive portfolio management, we have been able to spot warning signs and take corrective action to ensure projects stay on track to deliver the expected value to the business Project Management Community of Practice – creating a community across the company to bring like-minded people together to share experiences, make connections and collaborate on simplifying and improving our ways of working and best practices. Sharing & encouraging the use of Project Lesson Learned – utilising the community to share experiences and recommendations for improvements. Helping Hand – introduction of a scheme, utilising the community, to provide a support network for Project Managers. The initiative has also been adopted across other parts of the organisation. PPM Tool implementation – centralisation of project and program data leading to the automation of portfolio reporting and KPI measurement, enabling IT PMO to move from reactive & policing to a proactive and supporting function.
