Janet Sisolak’s Expertise As I step into the next chapter after 42 rewarding years in the design/healthcare industry, the wisdom of Fred Rogers resonates: 'Often when you think you're at the end of something, you're at the beginning of something else.' Gratitude fills my heart for the extraordinary journey, guided by the stars of opportunity. My career, spanning from Roy Materanek in Austin in 1981, Morris Architects in 1983 and to the family at MD Anderson Cancer Center, has been nothing short of phenomenal. For 32 years, I immersed myself in healthcare planning, design, and construction, culminating in the role of Director of Strategic Facility Development. Leading a formidable team, we navigated challenges, analyzed patient data, and shaped the future of our institution. The Master Facility Framework in 2019, a collaboration with Canon Design, stands as a testament to our dedication. Before my role as director, I served as a project director, overseeing the completion of over 4 million square feet on campus. High-level discussions, resolving key issues, and activating complex units became second nature. From the Major Building Programs team in 1992 to the Mays Clinic project and expansions of Alkek Hospital, each phase added layers to my rich tapestry with MD Anderson. From 2013 to 2015, as the Director of Capital Projects, I learned from a remarkable team, steering clinical, research, and administrative projects. The Cancer Network team allowed me to contribute globally, aiding in the design of cancer centers in Phoenix and offering consultancy across the United States and China. Now, my focus shifts to personal passions. Nurturing my Shetland Sheepdog, Nala, in agility, exploring machine embroidery with newfound friends, and delving into genealogy—curating the accumulated data I published last winter. As Layne R. from Ohio wisely said, 'Inhale the Future, exhale the past.' This quote, found in a Dove chocolate wrapper the week I announced my retirement, beautifully encapsulates my current mindset. Thank you for being part of this incredible journey. I look forward to connecting with kindred spirits, sharing stories of inspiration, and embracing the boundless possibilities ahead.
