Jeff Thomas’s Expertise The research I performed to recieve my Ph.D. allowed for me to learn an array of molecular biology techniques and to perform experiments independently. The focus areas of my doctoral research were understanding how translation/ and the unfolded protein response are regulated during hypoxia in cancer. My current research at Context Therapeutics is focused on understanding the role of Sigma 1 protein in cancer progression. Sigma 1 is an ER trans-membrane protein that acts as a scaffold/chaperone protein for client proteins involved in cancer progression. My research focuses on halting prostate cancer growth through understanding how sigma 1 antagonists target the androgen receptor axis of prostate cancer.
